DESCRIPTION:The Social Science Division at Crowder College is hosting a speaking event in regards to the Sutherland Collection\, a collection of books about the Civil War era donated by Dr. Daniel E. Sutherland\, a recently retired history professor at the University of Arkansas and the author or editor of more than fifteen books. The event will take place September 8th\, 5:30 pm in the Wright Conference Center in the Arnold Farber Building on the Neosho campus.\n\n\n\n"The Sutherland Collection is the largest\, most comprehensive Civil War collection in our area\," stated Dr. Denna Clymer\, Social Science Division Chair. \n\n\n\n"Hundreds of Little Wars: Community\, Conflict\, and the Real Civil War in the Ozarks" will be presented by Dr. Matthew M. Stith.  Stith is associate professor of history at the University of Texas at Tyler where he teaches and writes about military and environmental history. He earned his BA in History at Missouri Southern State University followed by his MA and PhD at the University of Arkansas. Since then he has written or edited four published or forthcoming books that explore elements of the Civil War\, Vietnam War\, and First World War along with several articles and book chapters. When possible\, he also researches and writes about the natural and cultural history of bears in America. The college also houses a rare books archive\, Herb and Barbara Schade Rare Books Archive\, which include many one of a kind publications.\n\n\n\nThis event is free and open to the public.
